Coughing, wheezing, hoarseness, and fatigue are just some of the symptoms that are often confused with less serious conditions. You may have an increased risk for lung cancer if you have been exposed to radon, asbestos, or other cancer-causing agents or if you have a personal or family history of the disease. The only recommended screening test for lung cancer is low-dose computed tomography (also called a low-dose CT scan, or LDCT). In this test, an X-ray machine scans the body and uses low doses of radiation to make detailed pictures of the lungs.
